2018 to 2019

For the first time in my life, as a young adult, I have no boundaries. I can travel the world (with money), go in whatever direction of career that I want (dependent on money), I have no restrictions, no limitations, and am in a position most young twenty somethings would find themselves in – overwhelmed by all of the possibilities.

But to accomplish what I want to achieve in 2019, I technically have nothing standing in my way. Albeit nothing that is not financial. But for the first time, I don’t have an essay, exam, or a major life change on my mind. Though, in a way this is because I am still going through a major life change.

This blog post is looking back on my 2018 resolutions and what I would like for 2019 to hold. I have decided that this year, I would like to not have the goal to change something about myself or for myself to get better in a certain skill – but for me to accomplish things and always do things that I have wanted to do. I have forever been the type of person who lacks in spontaneity and can stick to my comfort zone. And whilst this is good, I want to push myself and hopefully improve my confidence within myself.

My last years resolutions were as follows:

  1. Donate my hair to the Little Princess Trust
  2. Work on my mental health
  3. Become more worldly educated
  4. Develop my blog

Did I donate my hair to the Little Princess Trust? Yes I did. In October 2018 I took the plunge.

Did I work on my mental health? Most certainly.

I made decisions throughout the year that would better my anxious state, such as seeing a regular therapist, getting CBT and going on medication. And, to eloquently put it, there has been plenty of downs this year and when I am feeling low its hard to see how far I have come. But, I am much better and my good days are definitely outweighing my down worrying days.

Have I become more wordly educated?

Still admittedly a work in progress but I think the ever changing fractitious political climate has made a difference and helped me garner my opinion. Plus, as a side, I have noticed that this past year has made me develop a backbone, politically and personally.

And lastly, did I develop and spend more time on my blog?

Yes I have and I will continue to do so! I have plans to restart my blog Instagram this year, with the sole purpose to increase readership, develop skills on content creation and promote myself as freelance writer. Not to be an ‘influencer’ – I personally find that title slightly cringe? (No disrespect of course to those who do want to become influencers or who are influencers – I just don’t have the stomach for it.

My 2019 Resolutions

My 2019 New Years Resolutions run along the same thinking of doing more things for myself.

  • Getting a tattoo.

I have flirted with the idea of getting a tattoo for YEARS! However, my indecisive nature has prevented me from doing so. This year, I just will, I will find a design that I love and get it done.

  • Dye my hair pink

Another flirtation of mine. I have wanted to dye my hair pastel pink for ages too, but money and fear of being seen as ‘unprofessional’ has also prevented me from getting it done.

  • Attend London Fashion Week

It has always been a pipe dream of mine to go to a London fashion week show. Years ago, this would have been very difficult to get my hands on one of those tickets, yet times are changing.

The British Fashion Council now sell London Fashion Week Festival Tickets – sure it’s not a going to be blogger central or considered the IT girl territory that some of the more prestigious shows garner. But it is a start and of course I will go if I can get a ticket.

  • Do barre core class, do horse riding class, book ballet lessons – just do everything that I have said and thought about doing.
  • Get a piece of freelance work published – yep, I am going to be that girl shoving ideas down publications info@ email boxes.
  • Do a tough mudder – probably the most surprising to those who know me. I haven’t ever trained for a sporting event before, I have abhorrently avoided strenuous exercise for years (apart from ballet) due to the fact that I am lazy and my negative Nancy of my brain always told me that I am not good enough so I didn’t take part.

BUT NOT ANYMORE. I will become the clean eating KaleKenzo on Instagram who only stomachs pureed goods and somehow avoids UTI’s from all of that sweaty gym wear.

  • Reduce my single use plastic.

This is a popular general New Years Resolution this year that I have seen many people also publicise. We all know that the planet is damaged beyond repair, but to save it for future generations we have to make eco-conscious decisions and have that ingrained within our thinking.

There are so many options to reduce single use plastic waste – unfortunately many of these options at first can be expensive. So, throughout the year I will gradually buy these items (hopefully once or twice a month depending on my finances) to reduce my waste.

These include: buying a reusable stainless steel water bottle, a reusable coffee cup, a mooncup, bamboo toothbrush, bamboo utensils, reusable beeswax wraps, reusable straws, shampoo bars, deodorant bars, and conditioner bars.

If anyone has any suggestions for more eco friendly items then please let me know 🙂

I hope by writing this and publicising it to the 10 friends that read my blog that I will achieve all of these fun things this year.

I have plenty of blog ideas fizzling and sparkling in my brain at the moment so keep your eyes on these pages, and my social media pages to see updates and further posts!

Lots of love,

Molly x
